The various individual and collective farewells I received before leaving Australia were very much appreciated.
They will be long remembered – thank you! The friendship, prayers and support from back home in Australia have been and are very important to me, and are treasured.
The farewell from my church (Waitara SDA - see photos) was quite overwhelming. While of course I was sad to say good-bye, the night was such a good time to reflect on God’s leading in the past, present and future. The iPod (farewell present) is much appreciated and well utilised – I have a few sermons on it, the whole Bible, and of course music. One of the first things I listened to was a sermon by David Gates – an amazing story of how God has worked in poor countries through poor people to establish airplane services and national television networks for use in the church’s mission. Quite inspiring and challenging for me starting out in Laos! I also listened to Nehemiah on Sabbath – a great story for illustrating leadership, project management and development work.
The cards, messages and other items from various friends, both at church and uni (see photos), have all been kept and are much appreciated. I finally finished reading through the big card from Waitara church yesterday! Thanks everyone for your touching comments.
I must also report on the $150 (AUD) raised at my “Livo-Aid” farewell. The local Adventist church is starting up a Pathfinder club, with help from Adventist Frontier Missions (which has a few expatriates) and also the ADRA Laos country director (my boss). They are camping this weekend for the first time. They needed tents and also money to cover fuel. The $150 given by Waitara members has gone towards this Pathfinder club. More info will come as it comes to hand. |
