I am currently (since 2006) working as Program Director for ADRA Laos. I started this job immediately on completion and submission of my PhD thesis. In my current role I am responsible for designing and establishing new projects and overseeing the overall development program of ADRA Laos. This includes monitoring and evaluation, reporting to donors, and supervising project managers & program support officers. The current ADRA Laos program includes: water and sanitation projects with a strong emphasis on community health education and training; HIV prevention through youth peer education; tobacco control; school infrastructure improvement; and home and market gardening.
Food security project: well Soon after completing my undergraduate degree, and after working for a few months as a graduate, I also worked with ADRA Madagascar (see also www.adra.org, www.adra.org.au and www.danlivingston.com/adramadagascar) over the summer of 2001/02. I was a volunteer with the Food Security Project in Moramanga, funded by USAID.My main contributions were the development and implementation of an automated activity planning and organisation tool, development of the ADRA Madagascar web-site: www.adra.mg (my version of the site is copied to www.danlivingston.com/adramadagascar), local network installation, and improvement of office systems through implementing various computer solutions. I spent a complete month in the field (living in villages without power or water) training field staff in better use of information technology. While I contracted lingering health problems that eventually caused me to take 6 months leave from my PhD research, the experience is highly valued as an eye-opener to the desparate human and environmental needs of developing nations. I have an interest in working for improvement of water and sanitation in developing countries, ideally while maintaining and utilising current experience in the Australian water industry.
